Doro Tree is a family tree software
package specifically designed by and for Jewish
genealogists. The Jewish genealogical community, because
of the particular nature of the Jewish calendar, culture
and language, require specific, specialised tools in
order to properly document Jewish ancestry. With this in
mind, Doro Tree was created to meet these needs. The
current version, Doro Tree 2.1 incorporates a wide range
of updated features to make your genealogical experience
all the more rewarding.
Doro Tree has a number of features specifically tailored
to the Jewish market. Firstly, the software provides 100%
bi-lingual capacity between English and Hebrew, meaning
users can be confident that all features will work as
intended when working in Hebrew. Users can even employ
the option Hebrew data entry function, allowing users to
enter all data in Hebrew text. There's also a
Hebrew-Gregorian date converter, to ensure that all dates
entered in your family tree are accurate (and providing
you with an instant conversion at the click of a
button!). The software also has direct Internet access to
a range of Jewish genealogy sites to allow you to delve
deeper into your Jewish heritage. Doro Tree also allows
users to export their family tree as a complete web page,
ready for hosting on the web! Finally, there are
specialist holocaust commemoration features, which allow
users to input specific information relating to those
ancestors who are known to have died during the
innumerable tragedies of the holocaust.
Doro Tree is certainly an asset for the Jewish
genealogist. Obviously, non-Jewish researchers will find
the specific and specialised features that are employed
on Doro Tree relatively pointless and uninteresting. The
Jewish user however should find them particularly useful
in overcoming the problems that are commonly encountered
by Jewish genealogists when using programs that are not
specifically tailored to appreciate such specialist
needs. That said we're certain that most of the features
included on Doro Tree are also present on Family Tree
Maker (brought to the market by Ancestry.com), and for
half the price. The only reason we could see this being a
solid choice, is if the purchaser was specifically
intending to support Doro Tree as Jewish business.
Otherwise, we would suggest our No.1 rated software
package in this category, Family Tree Maker, as a cheaper
alternative. If you still wish to check out what Doro
Tree has to offer (and remember, it has a free trial
