Fam Tree offers users the opportunity to use a range of
genealogical tools to document their family's history by
creating a vibrant family tree with accompanying
documentation. Fam Tree is now in its fourth version
which is, we feel, testament to the success of this
software as a budget alternative to some of the more
advanced software packages that we have reviewed on this
site. At just $20 for the full version, we're sure that
Fam Tree will appeal to a particular type of genealogical
user. While this software certainly doesn't have all of
the most up to date features on offer at the moment,
users will find that it provides them with a
toolset that is perfectly suited to the everyday user
who wishes to create a family tree of quality, with a
selection of media additions.
The greatest asset of FamTree is the excellent family
tree builder that forms the main bulk of the software.
The intuitive software is a dream to use, and allows
users the opportunity to build their family tree using a
number of pre-set options which speed up the process
(especially for the novice user). Users can save, view or
print a complete list of the blood relatives of any
member of their tree, or edit this list to include those
related by marriage. These lists can also form part of a
collection of printable documents that can be produced
from the data included on your family tree. These
documents, unlike those on some similar software
packages, are pleasant to look at and we're sure that
users of Fam Tree would be pleased to share them with
family and friends. Fam Tree also supports GEDCOM files
and allows users to link up to three photographs to every
individual on their family tree.
As we have indicated, FamTree could be readily described
as a budget version of our highest rated genealogy
software, Family Tree Maker. FamTree is certainly not
the software choice for you if you are looking to include
digital mapping, DNA testing data or other more advanced
features in your family tree. If you're looking to
perform basic functions well, however, this could be a
great alternative site to our higher rated (and often
