Editor's Verdict:

WinFamily is a windows based family history and family tree software package. This software is advertised as the perfect balance between the ease needed to support a novice genealogist, and the professional tools needed to appeal to a professional family history researcher. While we were impressed by some of the features on WinFamily, nothing we saw could really justify the cost of the software. At $119 this software is the most expensive we have reviewed in this category, and despite a slick appearance and good complement of features, we just couldn't see anything that justified such a high price tag. Users can try out WinFamily with no obligation using the free trial, downloadable from the WinFamily website.

WinFamily provides its users with a collection of useful tools and features intended to make the process of creating a family tree both more fun and simpler. Users can design their family tree to suit their particular needs, choosing which direction the tree travels in and what form it takes. WinFamily also supports 5 different languages, and any one tree can contain data entered in any of the supported language characters. Users can export their creations as PDFs or GEDCOM files or simply print them for framing or distribution to friends and family. While all of these features are great, we really can't spot anything particularly original, or (perhaps more importantly) anything that warrants paying such a high price.

As we have already indicated, WinFamily is extremely expensive when compared to other software packages that we have reviewed in this category. We would advise all users to check out what WinFamily has to offer using the free trial before purchasing the software, as it's highly likely that they can get the same features elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. One great feature about the free trial is, even after it has expired (21 days), users can export their research from the WinFamily trial in GEDCOM format to use elsewhere. This means that, even if you don't decide to go ahead with WinFamily, you don't lose all of your research. Hit the link below to check out what exactly WinFamily is offering for such a hefty price tag, or if you want to look elsewhere, why not try one of the higher rated software packages in this category, such as Family Tree Maker?
