Editor's Verdict:

GenoPro is a professional quality family tree building software package which allows users to take advantage of a range of industry-standard genealogy techniques in order to produce high-quality, technical documents to illustrate their research. GenoPro prides itself on being more than just an ancestry site - the software allows users to include a vast amount of additional, relevant factual data about members of their family tree, and produce a range of alternative diagrams to illustrate this information. Using GenoPro, you can document an entire community, from bloodlines to adoption, including social relationships and emotional relationships, and display this information on genograms.

Genograms are technical diagrams that act like family trees, only they display a vastly different style and quantity of information. Genograms allow users to illustrate more then 33 different types of relationship using colors and lines to symbolize a particular relationship trait. These colors and lines help you discern the precise global relationship between members of your family. While GenoPro indicates that documenting family relationships is an important part of your genealogical journey (because of the importance of such relationships on the course of your family's history), we aren't so convinced that the documents produced as a result of this process are very attractive or, indeed, very easy to read. The mass of colored lines, zigzags, waves and miscellaneous symbols make discerning the specific relationship that exists between different members of your family tree extremely difficult without constant reference to a key or legend. GenoPro are extremely proud of the fact that more than half of their customers are professionals, such as social workers, therapists, academics and healthcare professionals, and we think this illustrates the precise target audience of this software. While this software is perhaps ideal for a professional that needs to get to grips with the particular relationships operating within a family, we think it is a little too technical for the average hobby-genealogist.

That said, as a technical software package, GenoPro has an excellent collection of resources that are ideally suited to this type of technical usage. Users can analyze and compile a wide range of statistics about any individuals featured in their family trees. Documents, charts and reports can be created detailing precisely an individual's life together with those that have had a particular impact upon it. Unicode support allows users the capacity to create documents in a range of supported languages (even those without English script). In addition, advanced mistake checking and auto-entry facilities make the process of creating a family tree that little bit simpler. Finally, we were impressed by considerations given to the system impact of running software of this kind, and by the suggestion that this software is the lowest impact software of its kind.

While this software is perhaps not suited to everyone, as many would find its features a little too technical, we're sure that some users will find some use for GenoPro. If you're a professional who needs software like this for an occupational reason, be sure to hit the link below to check it out!
