Roots Magic 4 is the newest version of the popular Roots
Magic family tree building software. The range of
software has received a great deal of international
support in the computing and genealogy industries,
receiving a number of prestigious awards to reflect its
prominent position in the industry. This software comes
highly recommended by Family History Magazine, Computer
Active Magazine, Family Tree Magazine, PC Format Magazine
and many more, and with its wide range of features and
publishable materials, we know why it has attracted such
great support in the industry.
Roots Magic 4 is extremely simple to install, and even
easier to navigate. Users can access all of the
information and features available on Roots Magic 4 from
5 central screens, making it simple for users to find
what they need. It's easy to edit information too, with
users able to add new data entry fields to reflect the
specific nature of their family. We especially liked the
level of integration with other software in the range,
such as Family Atlas, which allows users to plot a range
of map-data on digital maps alongside their family tree.
While this is great news for owners of both, we do think
that these features could have been offered within Roots
Magic itself.
Perhaps one of the best features of Roots Magic 4 is that
it provides users with a range of publishable products
that they can create using the outcome of their
genealogical research. Users can print out a range of
charts, sheets, books, reports and more from the
information pertaining to just one person or branch of
their family tree. Users can create mailing lists for
family reunions (and tailor these to include only certain
sections of their family tree), mailing labels, address
sheets, family calendars, relationship charts, photo
trees and 'story summaries' (which detail the major
events in the life of an individual) and much more with
the information stored on their family trees. The Roots
Magic book creator allows users to assimilate their
research into a streamlined book that can be printed (at
home or professionally) or stored on a data CD for later
use. Finally, Roots Magic lets users create shareable
CDs, which save the trees and information in a data
format that can be read by users who don't have Roots
Magic, thus sharing their research with
friends and family. We firmly believe that one of the
best parts about genealogical research and creating your
family tree is sharing it with your friends and family,
so it's great to see Roots Magic making it so easy to do
so.
While we were impressed with many of the features that
are included on Roots Magic 4, for our money, we do think
there are better programs out there. We would recommend
our users particularly check out Family Tree Maker, part
of the Ancestry.com group, which provides a bigger range
of resources (and printable products) for comparable
financial outlay. If Roots Magic does however, sound like
the sort of software you are looking for, hit the link
below to check it out!
