I've used it since 2017 when I used it to escape from the clutches of Ancestry.com
I run my own site and I also run an installation where the Family History Society I volunteer for has a members' family tree service.
I don't think the original reviewer did a very thorough job.
For example You do NOT need to know MySQL or php to install or use it and there are hosting providers who will install it for you. There are dozens of templates available to set the site style, some free but even more chargeable ones that are just beautiful, and not expensive (one off costs). And all of it is customisable if you want to delve into the possibilities of CSS (not that you NEED to). You can also integrate it with WordPress
The idea that everything stays in GEDCOM format is wrong. GEDCOM files are imported into TNG tables. You can import and export GEDCOM files as often as you want.
It's blisteringly fast
But the most attractive feature is that you can collaborate with others to build and maintain the content. My sister and I do exactly that. And you can do that without having to handover fistfuls of money to the likes of Ancestry.
Support is available from the developer and the user forum, facebook group, and email list and there are dozens of developers who provide free mods to extend the functionality
In summary, I would recommend The Next Generation (TNG) of Genealogy Sitebuilding to a friend.
